En Gedi - The Never-Failing Stream

En Gedi is an incredibly beautiful oasis near the Dead Sea. At the top of the trail, you discover a refreshing waterfall and crystal clear water pools. The oasis is fed by a never-failing stream that has flowed for thousands of years.

David likely came here while he was fleeing from King Saul, and enjoyed the refuge of refreshment and protection En Gedi provided. In Psalm 63:1 David writes, "O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water." David knew thirst. He also wrote of the Lord in Psalm 36:9, "For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light." He also knew what it was to be satisfied by the Lord.

This oasis of life is striking and provides many tangible contrast to the oppressive desert heat that surrounds it. Jesus called Himself the Living Water. Jesus is the ultimate Never-Failing Stream. Here it is easy to see what "living water" looks like in a tangible way. In the desert, water is life. In this sometimes oppressive barren life, the Lord, the Living Water, is Life - eternal life. Taste and see the Lord, He is good.
